How do you organize your bookmarks in Chrome? I use Google chrome as my primary browser; manage bookmarks, read later articles stuff. Most of the time for read later articles, I either use <a href="http://www.madrasgeek.com/2013/04/send-google-chrome-to-android-phone-tablet.html"title="Send Links from Google Chrome to Android Phone/Tablet" >pocket app or Instapaper. For other resources, I bookmark lot of stuff. For example: web designing resources, freebies, fitness related motivation, photography, daily visit forums etc. I add folders and organize my bookmarks under it. My Google account dashboard says I manage around 4K bookmarks, that’s a lot.

Recently I stumbled across a chrome extension to manage bookmarks effectively. It allows you to access bookmarks by opening a new tab. Also you can find bookmarks from chrome omnibar. Once you’ve installed the extension, simply type find and hit tab to search your bookmarks.

Quick Bookmarks extension for chrome organizes your Google chrome bookmarks perfectly. You can easily move/remove/add new bookmarks just drag and drop. You can create shortcuts to folders using tabs. It works totally offline.

Unfortunately, the favicons of bookmarks are replaced by default icon. This makes us to look for the title of the page. The user interface of the extension is brilliant, top-level folders automatically expand bookmarks bar, folders, other and applications.

Download Quick Bookmarks extension

Google apps Gmail account offers 25 GB of free space as inbox size that includes 5GB of Google drive storage. When your business involves lot of emailing and sending attachments, soon your inbox will be overloaded. How to free up some storage space? You need to find emails that have large attachments and delete them. Previously we wrote about similar service to find big emails on Gmail which is restricted only to Gmail and not for Google apps account.

Backupify has launched a new service called Free Space that finds big emails and free up some space on your Google apps account. If you haven’t heard of backupify before, it is a cloud based backup service. Free space for Google apps is a free service to quickly clean up your Google apps Gmail account. It can reduce large email inbox before it reaches the 25GB quota!

Let’s take an example before I tell you about its features. If your business email is hitting the limit means that your employees won’t be able to send or receive email until the size is decreased. Buying extra storage space is another option. Today we are not going to talk about it. What if you lose your customers because your employees won’t be able to send or receive email because of this limit?

Free space allows you to scan your enter email inbox for large emails/attachments and alerts to you clean them. If you’re a Google apps administrator or a Google apps user, with Free space you can authorize your Google apps account and clean them. As a Google apps administrator you have separate login to scan your entire domain to identify large accounts and emails and then alert your employees to delete those files.

When you authorize your Google apps account, it shows how many users have less than 10% of free space remaining, how many has less than 20% etc. It shows the top 10 storage users and top 10 largest files in your inbox. With all these details, you can take an action.

Backupify provides this free service “Free Space” which is a clever idea to get more users to try backupify. Because, inside the dashboard it gives you an option to back up your emails (large files) to a cloud based backup service.

With this, I wanted to share a service called Lost Photos – it scans your Gmail for large photos that are attached and allows you to backup photos alone to their backup service. Read our review on Lost Photos backup service.

Sometimes we send personal information like credit card details, tax information, health issues through private email service like Gmail. The most secure email service, but there is something that should be kept private. Do you know? Even though you send messages through private email service, it can be traced down and intercept with certain tools. If your passwords get leaked or stolen, hackers can read your messages from archives. If your passwords are strong and the recipients account is hacked, what will you do now? Your messages are seen by the other party.

Safe Gmail is a chrome extension that allows you to send encrypted messages inside Gmail. You can send private secret messages with military grade PGP encryption facility from your Gmail inbox. It works with any recipient. Your recipient doesn’t need any extension to view your message.

How does Safe Gmail work?

Install the Safe Gmail extension in your chrome browser.

Open compose email, select the encrypt option.

Enter a security question and an answer. The question and the answer should be known to your recipient too.

Now compose your message and send it.

Your messages are encrypted and sent.

The recipient will receive your message with the link to decrypt it. Only when the recipient answers your question, he is able to see the encrypted message.

After some time, the encrypted messages are automatically expired to prevent unwanted readers.

Is it really safe to use the extension?

When you hit the send button, the encryption is done in your browser and email message is sent. The encryption message isn’t stored anywhere; instead there is an encryption key that gets stored in the Safe Gmail cloud. Similarly, the message decryption is just the opposite. The encryption key is pulled out from the Safe Gmail cloud and the messages are decrypted. So your email messages aren’t stored or send anywhere.

Safe Gmail extension is completely open source, so if you’re a developer you can check the codes.

While using my desktop, I feel like reading some web links or stories on my Nexus 7. How do I send the interesting web page links to my Android tablet so that I could read it later? There are many ways to send links from Google chrome desktop to Android tablet / smartphones. You can use Chrome to Phone extension, you can use read it later (pocket app) or just bookmark in your chrome browser, so it syncs on your chrome tablet browser.

Chrome to Phone

Google chrome to phone is a simple extension that is developed to help in this issue. You can send any webpage links, phone numbers, selected text, maps to your android phone/tablet. For this you need to install Chrome to Phone browser extension and Chrome to Phone app on your android. Once done, you can simply light a text to send it to android. Or if you’re viewing a webpage, use the extension icon from your address bar to send the page to your android tablet.

Pocket app

When you find something that you want to read it later, use Pocket. It has a chrome extension, android app. Unlike Chrome to phone, you don’t have to install it everywhere. Just install the chrome ext. and use it to save links, photos, and videos to read it later. Go to getpocket.com to view and read all your saved articles. It automatically syncs to your phone, tablet or computer so you can view it at any time, even without an internet connection.

It has a tool bar, keyboard shortcut to save any page, integrated with your Google reader, twitter to save links, photos instantly without redirecting, right click context menu option to save any link and it syncs across all devices – iPhone, iPad, Android and more.

Sync Bookmarks to Nexus 7 Chrome browser

If you’re using any android tablet or smartphone with chrome browser, you can actually sync all your bookmarks from Chrome browser on your computer to your tablet or phone. Go to chrome on your computer and open settings to select Sign in to Chrome option. If you’re using same Google account on your Nexus 7, then it syncs all your bookmarks to Nexus 7 chrome browser. Finally you can save any article on your computer to view later on your Nexus 7 android tablet.

I am not going to write about extensions or apps that can enhance browsing experience in chrome. But purely using browser’s functionality one can make the best use of chrome to complete the task quicker. Google chrome has much built-in functionality that many of us aren’t aware of. Today am going to write about its lesser known features and how to get the best out of Google chrome. If you’re into chrome extensions and apps, in the past we had covered a lot.

Best YouTube chrome extensions

Best Screenshot extensions

Google chrome is one of the most used browsers in the world and most of our website visitors are using Google chrome. This article will highlight some of the forgotten feature of chrome that is less used by people. This small guide will list out the parameters and functions that chrome users need to use often. Google chrome is fast and efficient with many extensions and apps, but by default it has lot of functions and features that we forget to use. Let us see what they are …

Chrome Shortcuts

Google chrome shortcuts, saves lot of time. For example: a new tab – ctrl+t , new tab in a new window – ctrl+n. if you want to quickly open incognito mode – ctrl+shift+n. Want to check the browser history – ctrl+h. For downloads – ctrl+j.

Ctrl + 1 to Ctrl + 8: displays the tab corresponding to number, Ctrl + 9 displays the last in the list.

Ctrl + Tab: Moves to the next tab. Add Shift to go back.

Ctrl + W or Ctrl + F4: Closes the current tab.

Alt + Home: Opens the home page in the current tab.

Alt + E or F10 or Alt + F: Opens the menu of Chrome, you can then you walk around with the arrow keys and select with Enter.

Ctrl + Enter after entering a term in the address bar: adds automatic www. And. understands the search term (practice!)

More shortcuts are listed here on the official page.

Home button

By default chrome doesn’t show the home button on the browser bar. Home button is most useful when you need to quickly open. You may set home page as Google or bing or any search engine. From the settings page, you can show home button on your browser bar.

Quick History

Using ctrl+h you can view browser history, or if you just hold the back button on your browser bar for few seconds or right click the left arrow (back button) on the browser taskbar, it will list out the websites that you’ve visited. This is another useful trick.

Organize bookmarks

How do you organize your bookmarks? You hit ctrl+d to add any page to your bookmarks on chrome. But, bookmarks will be saved and title of the page will appear on your bookmarks bar. It takes lot of space. To organize your bookmarks effectively, you can remove the title and just keep the icons alone. You can easily identify the website and also save lot of space. You can have lot of bookmarks in your bookmarks bar.

Productivity extensions

Shopping extensions

Pin tabs

You can pin tabs that you use frequently. For example: I use Google reader daily to read feeds that is subscribed to. So I pin Google reader tab on my browser chrome. To pin tabs on chrome, you just right click the tab and select ‘pin tab’. It also works with Firefox.

Open multiple tabs in chrome

You can open multiple tabs in chrome. By default, you can set chrome to open a new tab page or your home page (Google search page). If you want, you can set chrome to open multiple pages. I use this option to open all my daily check websites. Normally, every day when I open Google chrome, I check Gmail, Facebook, Twitter and my blogs. So I configure chrome to open multiple pages at launch.

Open settings > start up pages > set pages by adding different URL’s into it. Now every time if you open chrome, all the websites that you’ve set will load on start up.

Drag tabs to desired location

When you open a link on the Google chrome, by default it opens in a new tab to your right. But guess what? You can simply drag and move the tab to your desired location. You can place the tab to anywhere on chrome by simply dragging it.

Right click search text

When you want to search a word or phrase found on a web page, simply highlight select it and right click and use the option “search Google for…” The search engine opens in a new tab. I guess many of you already know this trick. Similarly, if you highlight a website URL which isn’t hyperlinked, you can right click and visit the website directly. This trick saves lot of time. Instead of opening a new tab and pasting the text, you can simply use this to go the search page.

Quick calculations in the address bar

From the address bar of chrome, you can search any website; use it as a calculator too. If you’re too lazy to get out your calculator, chrome address bar can do simple calculations directly in the address bar.

Change default search engine

You can quickly change the default search engine on chrome. On the address, right click and select edit search engine. Or you can type this in your address bar – chrome://settings/searchEngines (this will allow you to change your search engines from Google to Yahoo or Bing).

Learn icons on the address bar

When you type something on the address, there are icons that appear while you type. You need to learn those icons. Here is the list below

It tells you the results are being part of favorites.

It refers to research, or similar search terms.

It refers to your browsing history and associated sites.

It refers to applications that you installed from the Chrome Web Store.

Uses of Chrome app store

The new tab page shows the most visited webpages’ thumbnails and when you move to the next page of new tab, you can find chrome apps. These chrome apps are shortcuts to your most visited sites. It saves some clutter form your bookmarks. You can explore chrome app store to find more of your favorite websites and apps. Even you can create a chrome app for your favorite website.

How to create chrome web app for my site?

If you’re a fan of madrasgeek.com, here is the tutorial how to create your own chrome app for any website. In this tutorial I have created a chrome app for madrasgeek.com where you can install it on your chrome new tab. It allows you to quickly visit your favorite website from the new tab page.

It is very easy to create chrome web app. Follow these 5 steps.

Create a folder with the name of your application

Create a file inside called “manifest.json” with this code

<Code>
{
“Name”: “Madrasgeek.com“,
“Description”: “Internet apps, WordPress, How-to Guides“,
“Manifest_version”: 2,
“Version”: “1.0″,
“Icons”: {
“128″: “128.png”
},
“App”: {
“Urls”: [
"http://madrasgeek.com/"
],
“Launch”: {
“Web_url”: “http://madrasgeek.com/”
}
},
“Permissions”: [
"UnlimitedStorage",
"Notifications"
]
}

Replace black bold text with your own values.

Add the folder icon in PNG format sized 128×128. The name of the png file should be 128.png

In chrome, go to tools > extensions > check the box developer mode

Click the load unpacked extension and browse the folder and upload.

Convert Bookmarklet into Chrome extension

You can even convert a browser bookmarklet into a chrome extension. Suppose if you have a bookmarklet to download videos from YouTube or any other website. You can use that bookmarklet and turn it into a browser extension. Read the tutorial here.

Stop chrome sync and clear data

You can sync all your data in chrome across computers that allow you to retrieve your chrome data like bookmarks, themes, auto fill data, profiles, extensions, passwords etc. If you want to clear out all the data from Chrome, go to https://www.google.com/dashboard under chrome you have options to clear out all the data that are synced to your account.

Social sharing, bookmarking extensions

Chrome Advanced Settings

Some advanced settings under chrome aren’t shown in general settings page and can be accessed through Chrome://about – this shows the list of URL’s and the settings of it.

Chrome task manager

One of the useful features of Chrome is task manager, which helps to manage each tab in separate process; you can see the resources consumed by each tab. To open chrome task manager, go to browser top header and right click to find the option task manager or simply use the shortcut key Shift+ESC.

Chrome Inspect element

This has been a life saver for many developers. Just like Firebug for Firefox, chrome has the function built-in for analyzing the structure of web pages and change on the fly for testing. Simply right click on any element and use Inspect element to find development tools. It must be very convenient for developers.

I have few websites in my bookmark bar that I open and use it daily. Websites like Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Quora, Reddit, Foursquare, and Stack overflow, Google plus etc. I am also very active on all these social networking sites. If you ask me how do I manage all these social accounts? I login daily to keep track of it, answer the notifications and much more. Later today found an extension – Chime for chrome that aggregates all your notifications for Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Quora, Reddit, Stack overflow, Google plus etc.

Chime for Google chrome allows us to receive notification aggregated in a separate area. Desktop notifications in Google chrome are so cool. Google mail has desktop notification, Facebook desktop notification; each social network has individual extension to receive updates on chrome easily. But Chime makes it way to combine the major social networks and useful forums/Q&A sites like Stack overflow, Quora to get notifications in one place.

Once you’ve installed the extension, it detects the services that you’re already logged in, so you start receiving notifications instantly. If you haven’t logged in, you can login to get notification. You can also select from which networks you can receive notification.

It displays notification in three areas. It displays in the top right corner of your browser, next to the address bar. The desktop alerts and a separate new page for notification alerts which displays all the notification in one place. You can also filter out notification by clicking each icon.

Note: Chime eliminates other desktop notification extensions that you are using it for Gmail, Facebook, Twitter mentions, etc. This replaces all other extensions and acts as an All in One desktop notification extension for Chrome.

Many of us are Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, Reddit addicts. This extension will save a lot of memory resources and extension resources. Instead of having 5-6 individual extension, Chime replaces it all. With a simple design, chime saves lot of time. In one way it boosts up the productivity and preventing distraction because knowing that none of your social accounts have a notification that keeps you from checking them back and forth.

Note to the developer team: You can add support to Google reader, YouTube and Google calendar. Also if possible, sound alert for the notifications.

Download Chime Extension

We have seen that Google has recently introduced several changes in the way Adsense ads look. First, as most of you must have observed, Google has added big arrows near each link. Sometimes even big square ad units show just one ad. It looks really bad to my eyes but Google can see the bigger picture and get the statistics about the impact of such ads on various parameters.

Recently some people reported that Google Adsense has been displaying animated ads. This was really weird. I never imagined if Google would ever do that because even if someone would hover over the ads by mistake, ads would animate and this would surely attract the attention of the user even if the user is not much interested in the ad itself. It seems that they are doing this on experimental basis. This may also increase the page load. So one may want to reduce number of ads on particular page.

Here are the videos that shows how animated ads look:

In the past Google chrome offered the possibility to users to install extensions and user scripts from external websites and that were not present in Chrome web store. Past few versions of chrome, it doesn’t allow users to install due to security features and protect users from malware and protect against malicious scripts.

For those who wish to install the scripts, here is a quick workaround. When installing a chrome extension which are in .crx file extension it will first download to your computer and then automatically throws an error when it tries to install it.

How to install chrome extensions and scripts manually?

You need to download the extension to your computer. The extension will have a .crx file format.

Now once you’ve downloaded the extension to your computer.

Drag and drop the extension in the Manage extensions page of Chrome.

To navigate manage extension page, you can find it under settings > extensions.

Click customize and control Google chrome icon on the address bar and navigate to Tools > Extensions.

In this page, you can find all the extensions listed out. This is the page you need to access for uninstalling extensions. So, drag and drop the .crx extension file into this page.

You can get confirm new extension installation on Google chrome. Clicks add and you’ve installed the extension not from the web store.

So here is how you can overcome this prohibition of installing chrome extensions directly from external sources.

For security measures Google chrome has disabled installing extensions from external sources. Use this method to install only if you’re sure about the extension.

Sometimes when you load a video aggregator site that has lots of videos displayed on the homepage with a thumbnail that shows clips of videos when moving your mouse hover it. When you visit such heavy websites using your chrome browser, you may find shockwave flash problems in chrome. Either flash crashing the chrome browser or you get the annoying message – Shockwave Flash has crashed.

This is mainly because of the Adobe Shockwave Flash plugin for the browser. This is the most annoying one because it just freezes the whole tab and ruins your browsing experiences. To fix this, I have a simple solution.

In your chrome browser, type About:plugins in your browser address bar. It will list out the list of plugins that you’ve installed. If you see Flash (2 files) then it is understood that you’ve installed it two times. On the right side of same window, you can find Details. Click the + button to expand and show some details of it.

Now you need to disable one flash plugin. You should disable the one which is installed in the chrome app data folder. The location something like C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome …

Restart the browser for the changes to take effect. Mostly this will fix the problems that you’re facing because of Shockwave flash issues.

Still, if you find problems. Then you can download shockwave flash uninstaller and then reinstall it freshly. Or Test shockwave flash player installation.

Some of the basic fixing includes, clearing your browser cookies etc.

Usually when you install applications on Facebook, that is when you allow some apps to authorize your facebook profile to use it, you don’t check/read what exactly the app collects data from your profile. Few apps collect all personal sensitive data’s such as contacts, phone numbers, etc. How to find out whether the Facebook app is secure and what information it collects. Do we actually have a reputation kind of stuff for each Facebook app?

Secure.me, a privacy protection firm has launched App Advisor – a web portal that lists out all the Facebook apps with the reputation and details. It protects Facebook users from accessing very poor reputation apps. If you install the App Advisor it will display signs of poor, average and good reputation marks on Facebook apps. Therefore prevent if an application is reliable or not in terms of use of our personal data.

Currently it analyzes more than 500,000 Facebook apps and serves more than 50 million Facebook users. It is one of the biggest App security network in the world. Just go to https://apps.secure.me and you can find details about each app. Below I provide you with some screenshots.

So before you allow access to Facebook apps, you can get the review about the app here on Apps advisor or if you install the Chrome extension, it will display the details when you allow the app to authorize on data.

First you have to install the chrome extension, once you’ve installed – connect your Facebook profile with App advisor. It takes you to the dashboard where it lists out all the features of App advisor to scan your profile, photos, activities, privacy analysis, profile analysis and network analysis.

Start to scan your account completely. It scans all the profile of your friends, activities, photos tagged, links shared etc. This scanning process is completely done in Secure.me dashboard. Let it be apart, now once it is completed, you can start using Facebook.

In Facebook, if you try to access any app, the extension will alert you with its reputation. You can see a notification bar displayed on top of your app page before you allow it to authorize your data. You can also click the small icon of extension on the address bar and find out its reputation and details.

Normally, if you want to remove any Facebook app, you can do it easily by going to this link. Facebook App Settings will allow you to remove any app from your Facebook profile and delete all its activity. So always keep an eye on this tab every week.

Now what kind of reputation and details does this App Advisor shows you? It shows what all the data the app collects when you connect this app and grant access to your information. It checks Facebook ID, Name, Gender, Picture, Your Location, Email, Education history, Work history, Hometown, Checkins, Status, Events, Photos and Likes.

Also you can find out whether it will publish actions on your friends profile on your behalf. This comes under app behavior. You can find out whether you may receive emails from this app, Will it send request to your friends after connecting this app etc. Finally you get to see the user rating of the specific application.

This app and its extension is something similar to WOT extension. WOT is Web of Trust extension that shows the reputation and trust ability of any website that you visit. Similar to it, this extension shows the reputation and trust ability of Facebook apps.

Install Chrome ext – App Advisor

This extension is definitely worth the download. If you’re already using Do Not Track Plus on Mac or browser extension for Chrome & Firefox, then this extension works similarly. It will stop ad and social networks from secretly tracking your every move. Not only social networks like Google+ and Facebook, it adds 1000 other sites to its database that shows what data of yours is being sold or lacks the privacy and security online.

Ad companies and social networks are tracking everything you do on the web. They know what sites you visit, when you visit them and how often you do and they know who you are. This tracking basically works only when you allow your browser cookies. So, PrivacyFix is the extension that we are going to talk about today. It can disable cookies from over 1,000 websites.

It analyzes the website and data information that are transferred. To the orange light, you should keep an eye on the items highlighted. Green can be safe. Once the extension is installed, it offers a wealth of information about your data and settings to manage your privacy.

Managing your privacy means, you can choose to limit who can see and find your Facebook profile and activity, including games and apps. You can stop Facebook from collecting data about you on other sites.

Other privacy stuff that you can manage such as if you don’t want to index your profile on Google, the apps that you don’t want to be shared with your friends, etc. Majorly it shows Facebook & Google+ for privacy errors. If you want other sites, then click next to move on. It offers more than 100 advertising websites to manage your privacy.

Finally, set up by turning on the health bar. It will show the health of each website that you visit in your browser.

Try PrivacyFix. It has browser extensions for Chrome & Firefox.

Chrome has held a special place in the recent months and its always my favorite browser. Google has managed to bring in chrome first place with its chrome app store that has lot of useful extensions and apps. On the past, I had written about lot of chrome extensions for shopping, Youtube experience, Screenshot chrome plugins, Productivity extensions, for web designers and more. Today I have compiled a list of interesting new chrome extensions that you should try.

1. Omni Focus :

Omni focus is a quick to-do task manager that can quickly capture your thoughts and allows you to store, manage and process them into actionable items. You can organize and sync them across devices. The chrome extension adds a small icon that will send your current page and the specific text that you have selected. You can try Send to OmniFocus here.

2. Pinterest Right Click :

Submitting the web content such as images/videos to pinterest is now made easy. With right click, you can send any image or a video to Pinterest. You don’t have to visit the pinterest website everytime to pin your favorite content from the web. Instead, on your right click context menu, send them to pinterest. Right click on any image or YouTube video to send it to pinterest. You can use ‘Pinterest Right click‘ chrome extension.

3. YouTube Feed :

Similar to Google reader feed chrome plugin that notifies with latest news feeds, this Youtube feed chrome extension updates with the notifications of latest Youtube uploads from your subscriptions. It shows all your subscriptions activity such as uploads, likes, comments, favorited etc. You receive instant notification whenever new content is available. The options in the plugin helps you to filter out which types of content you would like to receive notification. Try this extension from the chrome app store.

4. WikiPedia Smart Links :

The internal links in Wikipedia will be much helpful when you study about the current subject. Without this extension, you need to open the internal links on the page in a new window or new tab. For instant preview, this extension is very helpful. It shows a instant preview about the page when you hover mouse over the internal links. This means that when you’re reading an article and want more information from a referenced link, you can quickly get the information you need without diverting your attention from the primary topic at hand. Use WikiPedia Smart links – a must have one !

5. Free Stock Photo Search :

This chrome extension comes handy for people who use image search extensively. This plugin has in-built search option for more than 200 sources of free stock photos and other free images which comes to total of half a billion images. You can select specific image search sites in the drop-down option from the plugin. It has popular sources like flickr, wikimedia commons, SXC.hu and many other free public domain sources. Try out this plugin from chrome app store.

Bonus : Title Time tracker : Find the amount of time you spend on each website. Install this plugin and it shows you the exact time spent on a web page. This helps you in controlling how much time you spend on a page. Install from chrome app store.

What do you mean by Chrome offline apps ? It means, use these apps even without an Internet connection. Awesome isn’t it ? The new chrome store allows you to find the chrome apps that are supported offline. In the collections > offline applications you can find all the apps that are supported offline.

Suppose if you own a Chrome book and probably wondering what are the apps that support chrome os offline ? Here is the link to get offline apps for Google chrome.

One of the apps that I use is Gmail offline. Very useful one. Allowing mail to be read, responded to, searched and archived completely offline. Once you connect to the internet, the mail which is ready will be sent. Gmail Offline will automatically synchronize messages and queued actions anytime Chrome is running and an Internet connection is available.

Some of the apps I use offline including Gmail, Google calendar, Quick note, Jolicloud, Scientific calculator, Color sphere, Angry birds, World clock (I don’t need to Google everytime to look time of various countries).

Chrome Offline Apps

We had already seen save Gmail to hard drive and attachments including docs, pdf can be directly saved to your Google docs. But if you receive large <a href="http://www.madrasgeek.com/2011/09/how-to-save-email-attachments.html"title="Email Attachment Downloader" target="_blank">Gmail attachments like audio files, images etc. Instead of storing it in your hard drive, you can directly save them in your Google Gdrive. Gdrive now merged with your Google docs, so all your files are syncd in one place.

Few days back I remember discussing about gmail storage and how to download photos from Gmail to computer. Gmail provides 10GB of storage to everyone. But if you keep large <a href="http://www.madrasgeek.com/2011/09/how-to-save-email-attachments.html"title="Email Attachment Downloader" target="_blank">attachments like photos in your Gmail, then storage space will soon be over. To avoid that, you can use a software to download all your photos from Gmail to PC in one click.

If you’re not comfortable storing them in your PC hard drive, then you can directly send them to cloud storage like dropbox or GDrive. GDrive is the new online storage service from Google. It has been rumored since 2007 and finally was launched few months back. If you’ve used dropbox, its something similar to it. Once you’ve installed a small software Gdrive in your PC, everything you put inside a folder in your PC will get syncd online in your Gdrive account. and vice versa.

It’s Simple. Install the GDrive on your computer or mobile device. Throw your files in Google drive and there you go ! Change a file on the web, on your computer, or on your mobile device and it updates on every device where you’ve installed Google Drive. Share, collaborate, or work alone. You get 5 GB from the start, and you can upgrade to get more space at any time.

So, I hope you now get a clear understanding of Google drive, you can learn more about it here.

As the title says ‘Save Gmail attachments directly to Google drive’, with the help of chrome extension Gmail attachments to drive. Whenever there is an email with an attachment, you have the option “Save to drive” that appears. This is roughly the same as downloading except that in this case, the document will instantly disk.

Normally an Gmail attachment can be downloaded to computer or open direcly via Google docs. If it is a doc, ppt, excel spreadsheet you can save it directly to your docs. What if its image or audio files. You need to download to PC and then sync with your cloud storage. Now, avoid that one extra step and directly save it to your Google drive cloud storage.

When you press “Save to Drive”, the file will be automatically saved at the root of GDrive. There is no option to store it in a directory defined. If you go to drive you will see the downloaded file (if you sort files in descending order of last modification).

Install Gmail Attachments to Drive Extension

Yesterday I talked about a chrome extension that allows you to read partial feeds without leaving Google reader. Instead of opening a new tab everytime to read the full article, you can read without leaving the Google reader in a beautiful popup window. Today am going to add one more extension to the list. If you’re like me who consumes all the news information via Google reader, then this is must have extension.

Before talking about the extensions, for people who love to consume information at one place – this is like a multi-branded shopping store. You get to buy all the brands under all categories under one roof. Similarly, with the use of Google reader, you can add websites, categorize them and consume the news information under one roof Google reader. Some websites will show the full news articles, some may only show partial feeds that you need to click the link and go to the website to read its full article. To avoid that, here are two extensions that will allow you to read the full news inside Google reader interface.

<a href="http://www.madrasgeek.com/2012/08/open-rss-feed-url-within-google-reader.html"title="Open RSS Feed URL Within Google Reader" target="_blank">1. GRIwsome (aka Inline Google Reader)

We had already discussed about this extension yesterday. You can read it <a href="http://www.madrasgeek.com/2012/08/open-rss-feed-url-within-google-reader.html"title="Open RSS Feed URL Within Google Reader" target="_blank">here.

2. Super Full Feeds for Google Reader

This extension doesn’t need any description. Because, once you’ve installed, go to Super settings (which will be available inside Google reader interface). Click on the super settings to select between Full entry content & readable content. Each feed item has 3 tabs on the top Readable, Link and Feed. Readable entry content from the source of the feed, parsed to extract only the most important content. Link will help you to view the entry link in an iframe that has it’s height adjusted to the correct size of the entry page and Original feed entry.

Note : If you want to browse the web, read and consume lot of information – For god sake leave the Internet explorer and start using Google chrome.
