Unfortunately, prices of laptops usually go up during the holiday season, instead of down. Businesses know that people buy more tech products around December, so that’s when they stealthily raise prices. This can make getting the best price on a laptop during the holidays very tricky. That shouldn’t stop you from purchasing a new laptop, though, especially if you really need one or one of your loved ones would really like one as a gift. All you have to do is search around a little bit for the best deals, time your purchases just right, and use other money saving tactics. Here are some ideas to help you find the best laptop deal during the 2011 holidays:
1. Look for holiday sales from companies like Dell and HP. For instance, every December, Dell holds its “12 Days of Dell” sale and significantly reduces the prices of some of its laptops. Additionally, HP will usually reduce the prices of their computers and laptops for a limited amount of time in December. Check the Dell and HP website every day to look for new deals. They’ll often only put certain items on sale for a day or two.
2. Find some online coupons. There are several coupon sites that allow you to search for coupons for specific products, including various kinds of laptops. The coupons will usually save you around 25% on select laptop purchases. If you know what kind of laptop you want, it’s a good idea to look for coupons for that specific laptop model. The online coupon industry has grown tremendously in the past few years, and it’s pretty likely that you’ll be able to find the a coupon that will provide you with the right savings for the right laptop.
3. If you don’t have your heart set on a particular laptop model, consider checking out refurbished laptops online or at local computer shops. You can easily find some pretty good quality refurbished Dell and HP laptops for around $150 to $200. These laptops usually work just as well as new laptops and can save you a whole lot of money. For instance, you may be able to get a top-of-the-line refurbished Dell laptop for $300. A comparable laptop from Dell’s online store might cost you around $1000. If you decide to purchase a refurbished laptop, just make sure you do it from a reputable website or store.
So, follow the advice above and remember that the new laptop of your dreams doesn’t necessarily have to burn a hole in your wallet!
