Always when you’re not using the WiFi at home or at work, it is safe to turn off the WiFi which you’re using on your laptop,
otherwise your computer may get connected to malicious hot spot without your knowledge. Mostly all laptops will have a WiFi button that lets you to disable WiFi adapter. If you’re laptop doesn’t have one, here is a simple step by step instruction to turn off your wifi adapter.
Turn off WiFi in Windows 7
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Hardware and Sound.
Under Devices and Printers, click Device Manager.
In the list, click Network adapters. Right-click your wireless card, and then click Disable.
Follow the same steps to enable the adapter.
You can use this same steps for Vista, Xp too.
