Apart from social media networks, there are a lot of communities where you can promote your blog. For example orkut, youtube, forums etc. All these communities have huge amount of users and thus you can market your blog there to get exposure.
4. Email Marketing
Now a days email marketing is also gaining popularity on the web. I am getting 5 to 8 emails daily from different bloggers and web site owners about there services and content. I have never visited that blogs before, but still they found my email address from some where and now they are sending emails. Well this technique is not looking ethically good, but still it helps the marketers to get exposure to the world.
5. SMS Marketing
This is new but a emerging technique that marketer use to expose there products and services to the world. As a blogger you can also use these techniques to expose your blog to the world. There are softwares available which can do this for you. If you don’t want to use softwares, then you can collect or search mobile numbers of the bloggers on the web or from any other means, to market your blog through Short Messaging Service.

SMS Marketing??? Never thought about this…. Unwanted messages or using Google’s SMS Service??

Now a days people are using SMS services for advertising. But Email marketing as you said seems to be more of spamming and not marketing.
I was already targeting 4 out of 5 you mentioned. Email marketing is latest in this.. :)

I agree marketing and promotion is a very important feature of any blog or for that matter any company to be sucessful but to equate time spent with money allotted cannot be sensible. Obviously 80% of your spending might be on promoting your blog but if you are a working 10 hours a day on a blog, you cant spend 8 hours on promotion and marketting and only 2 hours on writing posts, following up comments, replying to emails and also reading feeds from various other blogs.
Wont it be annoying ? SMS marketting …. apart from that this is a great article. :)
