If you own a blog and are dedicated to increasing traffic to your site, you probably know that one of the best ways to do so is to get people to link back to your site. The easiest way to achieve this is to get your articles published on other sites with a link to your site at the bottom of the page. So the more number of sites that allow you to publish your writing, the larger the area over which your links spread.
When you write as a guest author, the main thing to remember is that you must do sufficient research on each site before you begin to write and come up with an article that is targeted at its readership. You must submit original content that has not been published on your blog or in other places on the net, and you must be prepared to let others guest blog on your site as well. Besides following these basic unwritten rules, there are three other mistakes that guest bloggers must never make:
Neglecting their own site:
The very purpose of guest blogging is to increase readership to your site, so when you neglect your pages and fail to come up with quality content from time to time, the visitors who do come from the other sites are going to be disappointed. So focus not just on writing quality guest blogs, but also on generating good content for your blog as well on a regular basis.
Remember that you need to post every few days if you want Google and other search engines to remember you. So take on only as many guest blogs as you can tackle besides writing for your own blog. When you make a commitment to other blog owners, you must keep it or you will not be taken seriously again.
Focusing on quantity and not quality:
Some links are more valuable than others because of the site they are placed on. So focus on getting webmasters of sites that have high PR numbers to allow you to guest post on their blogs. These sites have large volumes of traffic, so by getting your article and link published on them, you’re deriving a lot of potential traffic for your site as well.
In general, it is better to write a few guest posts that are targeted at high PR sites than a hundred posts for any random site.
Don’t compromise on your beliefs:
There are some blogs that are unconventional and eccentric and which feature beliefs and opinions that you may not agree with. If you go against your belief and tailor your articles according to the blog owners’ wishes, you may end up losing your regular readers who are devoted followers of your beliefs.
In short, it is best not to contradict yourself just because each blog owner demands different ideas and policies.
