1. Download the plugins from the Plugins page

2. If you’re using latest version of WordPress, you can just upload the zip file to the plugins directory which automatically unzips it and activates the plugin.

3. If you’re using older version of WordPress, I strongly recommend you to upgrade.

4. For installing plugins in older version, click on the Plugin tab.

5. Just unzip and upload the plugin to wp-contents/plugins folder.

6. Once you have uploaded a plugin to your WordPress plugin directory, activate it from the Plugins Management page.

  7. I wouldn’t say most of them are must have plugins, but Good-to-have plugins instead.

    You can live without almost all of them, except Akismet and WordPress Data Backup. I use WP-DBManager instead.

    Rest of them are good to have including XML Sitemaps.
