We have already seen the best online and desktop image editing tools, today found a new desktop app which converts our photos to ascii art. Just load your image, play with settings and get your image converted into ascii art.

Ascgen is an simple desktop app which helps to convert images into high quality ASCII art – text that accurately represents the original image. ASCII art is a graphic design technique. To understand in simple, its a text based art in general. Below you can see a tank and truck desgined using ascii art.

Coming back to desktop app Ascgen, All you need to do is, download the zip file and run the exe file. Ascgen is based on .Net framework 2.0 so ensure that you have .NET framework 2.0 or higher installed to run this program.

* Open the Ascgen – Click on File > Load Image

* Select the image which you want to convert to ascii art

* You can also customize like brightness, contrast, dither (optional)

* That’s it, ASCII art will appear on your screen.

Please note : You need .NET framework 2.0 or higher version to run this program. If you don’t have .NET Framework, you can download it from here (Choose the “Redistributable Package” for your system – probably x86). Windows Vista comes with .NET 3.0 installed by default.
